The Student Voice Forum is a space for students to share feedback about their experiences in Kentucky schools and constructive ideas about how to make them better. The Forum is hosted by the Kentucky Student Voice Team, which consists of over 100 self-selected students from elementary school through college who work as education research, policy, and advocacy partners to improve Kentucky schools.

Commenting & Conduct

To ensure successful debate and discussion on the Student Voice Forum, we have a few rules, guidelines, and opportunities to contribute:

Readers with Medium accounts can comment on Forum pieces.

Medium is a blogging platform that links through Twitter. If you want to sign up for Medium, click “sign up” above. The platform allows users to respond either at the end of the story or by highlighting a specific line and clicking the comment button on the pop-up. Responses are publicly attached to your Medium account. Read more about responses here.

We hope that comments will allow a healthy discussion of issues, ideas, and opinions. To ensure that the Forum remains a safe space for student conversation, the Kentucky Student Voice Team will report and remove comments containing profane or otherwise inappropriate content, comments which attack the writer or another person, or comments that generally serve to undermine civil discourse.

If you have any concerns about the conduct of participants in this forum, please email us at editors@studentvoiceforum.org.

Submissions

The Student Voice Forum is a place for every student in Kentucky to share their ideas, opinions, and experiences in education. While we have regular contributors to the Forum, anyone can pitch or submit a post to the editors.

We will accept almost anything related to school culture or education research, policy or advocacy. We just have a few basic guidelines:

  1. Posts should have a distinctive student voice (either the author’s or that of another student) that pertains in some way to school or education in general.
  2. Writers should back up any claims with relevant evidence.
  3. Co-writing is perfectly acceptable.
  4. Posts should be at least 400 words.
  5. There should be no inappropriate content, including personal attacks.

Submit your draft post to us at submissions@studentvoiceforum.org. The editors will review your post and help you edit and improve it for publication on the Forum.

Join the Team

Are you interested in writing more regular posts related to the school experience? We’re always looking for student writers to join the Forum Team.

Team Writers commit to writing a post at least once every two months and can write about a variety of education issues or focus on one specific beat or area of interest. We do ask that students interested in becoming a Team Writer submit and publish at least one post to the Forum before applying.

If you’re interested, please email a personal bio and links to your Forum post to editors@studentvoiceforum.org.
